What is the Career Development Program for IUPE students?
The career paths of students in the International Undergraduate Programs in English (IUPE) at Kyushu University often diverge significantly from those of other international students studying in Japanese. As part of the School of Agriculture and Engineering, the IUPE offers a specialized career education program designed to meet the unique needs of its diverse student body. This program is dedicated to providing high-quality career development education, equipping international students from various backgrounds with the skills and support necessary to succeed in their professional careers.

Junior ~Senior fall/winter (3.5 years)
Courses
Students will be awarded a certificate of completion upon earning 1 credit from the required course, 1 credit from the elective courses listed below, presenting their "My Project," and submitting their finalized "My Portfolio."

Career Development Education for Science and Technology

This course focuses on career development by providing students with opportunities to gain insights from professionals, current students, and alumni through structured activities and information sharing. Its goal is to cultivate talent that integrates interdisciplinary expertise in agriculture and engineering while incorporating diverse global perspectives and experiences. Students will learn to design their careers based on their strengths, adapt to dynamic global environments, and develop the skills to contribute to sustainable development and societal well-being. Additionally, the course takes advantage of its English-taught format to equip students with practical strategies and skills, preparing them for career opportunities in Japan and worldwide.
Volunteering for Sustainable Development I/II

This course explores the role of volunteerism in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which aim to address global challenges such as poverty, inequality, and climate change. Students will engage in volunteer service projects aligned with specific SDGs and apply academic concepts to real-world issues, developing the ability to make a meaningful impact. Additionally, through reflection on their contributions to the community, students will deepen their leadership skills, sense of social responsibility, and community engagement. This service-learning program aims to help students apply academic skills to real-world challenges, promoting personal growth while addressing social issues. Through their social contribution, students will play a part in advancing the SDGs and develop a sense of responsibility and leadership within their communities.
Internship in Science and Technology I/II

This course offers students hands-on experience applying science and technology to agriculture and engineering, bridging the gap between academic knowledge and practical application. Students will develop practical skills through real-world projects and enhance their collaboration and problem-solving abilities by working with companies and research institutions. They will learn to apply academic concepts in practical settings. Additionally, the course will support career development by providing insights into global industries, assisting students in designing their future career paths and equipping them with the skills needed to succeed in a global society.
Japanese Language Course
After 1.5 year intensive Japanese learning in KIKAN education, we provide special Japanese language course that help our students enrich their study life in Japan and develop their potential and ability to be active in the future world. Three-level courses of small classes are offered: Active Japanese Ⅰ,Ⅱ(Pre-Intermediate-Low Intermediate), Progressive Japanese I, II (High-Intermediate and above), and Japanese Business Communication for Japanese students (Advanced and above).

My Portfolio

Students will submit the final version of a portfolio that they have been developing since their first year at the university. It serves as a meaningful record of their journey throughout their studies, showcasing their progress and the depth of their learning. This portfolio will stand as a testament to their development and will be a valuable tool in pursuing future career opportunities, helping students present themselves effectively to potential employers.
