As the Coordinator for the International Undergraduate Program in the School of Agriculture since 2018, I support international students in their academic journey and adjustment to life in Japan. Studying abroad is exciting but can be challenging, and I’m here to provide guidance, resources, and a supportive community.
Having been an international student at Kyushu University myself, I understand how transformative this experience can be. It’s truly rewarding to see new students embark on their own journeys and grow. Beyond academics, I value meaningful learning through collaboration, hands-on fieldwork, and cross-cultural exchange. I encourage you to explore the many opportunities available and make the most of your time here.

    [Engineering programs]

Engineering programs offer extensive support to students from their junior year until graduation, providing personalized guidance through two dedicated coordinators, class advisers, and research supervisors in their final year. This ensures a smooth and successful academic journey of each student studying in the programs.

    Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering
Specialized in Educational Technology for Foreign Language Education
Hi! It’s great to meet everyone here at the School of Engineering. Many international students choose Japan as their study-abroad destination because they love Japanese animation, manga, games, or culture. I completely understand that, as I was once an anime fan and gamer myself—interests that led me to learn Japanese and eventually study abroad in Japan. Now, I’m working here. As a former international student, I also faced many challenges along the way. You can think of me as your ‘big senpai’—like an older sister who has been through similar experiences. I’m here to support you throughout your journey at Kyushu University!

    Dr. Mika Tamura

    Professor, Faculty of Engineering
Intercultural Trainer, Language Coach, and Educator
With over 12 years of experience in my current role, I am deeply committed to creating pathways that empower students to thrive academically and personally during their time in Japan. My passion lies in guiding international students through their educational journeys, helping them navigate Japan’s rich and diverse cultural landscape with confidence. By offering tailored guidance, practical resources, and fostering a supportive, inclusive community, I work to ensure students have the tools to turn challenges into valuable opportunities for both personal and professional development.

  2. Peer to Peer Study Group

A study group for undergraduates fosters collaborative learning, offering advantages for both the leaders and the participants. Leaders enhance their understanding by teaching others while developing essential leadership and communication skills. Conversely, participants gain clarity on complex topics, benefit from diverse perspectives, and experience increased motivation and accountability. This collaborative process ultimately improves their retention and overall comprehension of the material. The coordinators will award certificates of leadership to the student leaders.

  3. Senpai-Kohai Supports

IUP programs promote a senpai-kohai peer support environment, where senior students guide and mentor juniors. Both the schools of agriculture and engineering have senpai (senior) student groups, QUBES and KYURIOUS, that hold various events to support junior students in their academic and social lives. This fosters a unique collaborative environment that enhances academic performance, builds confidence, strengthens community, and offers professional networking opportunities. It also helps senior students develop leadership skills while easing the transition for juniors.
